The answer lies somewhere in the middle, but Federer, Nadal or Roddick level this game is not.

It wasn’t too long ago when interaction between gamers and developers was mainly a one-way street. Developers trickled information out to gamers through carefully established channels like E3 press conferences, magazine exclusives and press releases. Gamers were left to share their feedback and concerns with other gamers. Granted, you may have been able to write letters or e-mails to developers, but there was no guarantee that they would be seen by anyone. That type of controlled chain of command slowly started to change as the Internet opened more communication lines, but only recently has the gamer-developer interaction exploded into the full-on, two-way communication that we are experiencing today. Thanks to message boards, developer blogs and technologies like Twitter, gamers and developers now freely exchange information and ideas on a daily, hourly and even minute-by-minute basis.

Usually, this week is one of the slower weeks in sports gaming with it being the week of July 4th. Of course, this week also marks the first week of the second half of 2009. With that, I have compiled a list of the best games of the first half of the year, see if you agree or disagree:
Surprise of 2009: UFC 2009 Undisputed - I honestly expected the game to be pretty good. Instead, it turned out to be a sleeper game of the year type of game.
Text-Sim of the Year: World of Mixed Martial Arts 2 - OOTP and Football Manager both could be here, but my favorite text-sim of the year 'so far' has been WMMA 2.
Game of the Year: MLB '09: The Show - I still think this game is one of the all-time greats. Many disagree, but the gameplay and experience is just spot on for me.
So what do you think? What are your awards? What other categories and winners would you include?

I recently reviewed Backyard Baseball '10, a cartoonish Wii baseball title aimed primarily at kids. I chastised that game for an overall lack of polish, including the embarrassing "World Champion Red Sox" video that seemed left over from 2008. It was almost as if the producers said, "eh, kids won’t know any better."This time around I’m offering my opinion on yet another Wii baseball game aimed at children, Little League 2009 World Series Baseball. Does it avoid the missteps, mistakes and laziness of Backyard Baseball? The answer, in my opinion, is decidedly mixed. Ironically, "mixed" is an appropriate word to describe this game overall.
