So, you boosted your way to a legend card last year or never got one and now want one. You want to feel like you have achieved something in the EASHL and feel like a top player. Well in this article, we will be discussing the Legend Card.
Before Continuing:
It is much easier to get the legend card as a defenseman, especially if you have a good group of guys to play with. You pretty much get an A+ position score every game, team play hope to get nothing worse then B (don't hold onto the puck too long, make smart decisions, avoid turnovers at all costs), and Stats, if you're playing with skilled players, very easy to get an assist somewhere which will get you an A+ as well.
The Basics:
There are 6 different cards: Amateur (default), Rookie , Pro, Veteran, Superstar and finally, the Legend Card.
The legend card is unlocked after 150 Games played in the EASHL and at least an A- Skater Rating. No, you cannot play 150 games as a skater and then 1 game as a goalie with an A- and unlock it. You must maintain your grade after the 150 game mark. Your skater rating is rated on 3 specific categories: Position, Team Play and Stats.
Position:
Positives:
-Take your defensive zone, cut it into 4 quarters. Wingers, if the puck is on your side, you should be somewhere between the half boards and the opposing defenseman so you can be an outlet. If the puck is on the other side, you should drop to the high slot but still be within range of their dman. Centers, support the puck. This does not mean chase it everywhere, it means angle the puck to the boards and board play the guy. Always stay between the man with the puck and the net and do not chase to the point, the winger is there for a reason. Instead, help clear the front of the net. Dmen, if the puck is on your side play your man aggressive and if it is on the other side, stay in front of your net and clear anyone that comes near you.
-Protect the posts dmen
-Set-up a wall on the blue line (only with good 2-way forwards), only make checks if you're sure your hit will knock the skater off the puck.
-Keep pucks in the offensive zone, cover your side boards
-In most cases dmen, you want to be the last man out of your D zone, while getting to the offensive blue line as fast as possible to provide support for your forwards (along with your D partner).
Negatives:
-Self explanatory...almost never be the first person out of your def zone and/or the last person out of your offensive zone
Team Play
Positives:
- Make smart passes. This means you do not pass to someone when there's 2 people between you. Instead, cross center and dump the puck in
-Shoot. DO NOT Shoot from everywhere EVERY TIME. If you are set up in their zone and are passing around, shoot from the point a lot, but as a defenseman you don't want to out-shoot your forwards. Forwards, if you cannot make a pass to the slot shoot low at the goalies pads.
-Turnovers:Takeaway Ratio. The more you cause pass interceptions and turnovers against them with you taking possession of the puck the better. It is speculated that getting loose pucks will help too, but I'm not so sure about that
- Successful poke-checks. DO NOT be a poke check *****, meaning all you do is poke check. Use it if he is coming towards you or from the side. NEVER POKE CHECK FROM BEHIND and use the 3 rule limit. If you have poke checked 3 times and nothing, use a different button before poking more.
-Blocked shots [only counts as a blocked shot if you are lying down to block (LB+RB on 360 or LB block. I believe that works because thats how I block all my shots.)
-Reduce attempted body-checks. I have 49 hits in 180 games, nuff said here.
-Successful clears during PK. For gods sake, do not try to score on a PK unless its a clear odd man rush. GET IT OUT
Negatives
- Turnovers. Errant passes, bad shots which miss the net an give them possession, not dumping the puck in and trying to dangle.
-Penalties. (3 time rules remember. It applies to stick lift and poke check.)
-Number of icing calls on you. IF you are being pressured heavily, its fine to ice it but do not ice it for no reason.
-Off-sides if you were involved in the play
Stats:
Positives:
-All you need for an A/A+ in stats is a +/- of at least +1 and a point for the game.
-Dmen all you need for an A/A+ in stats is a +2 for the game, but obviously getting goals and assists will help
Negatives:
-Anything under +2 will gradually take your stats rating down for both Forwards and Dmen.
How to Unlock your Legend Card:
You have to get your overall ratings to A- for several games (after maintaining a B+) to get your legend card. It is important to know you can't have a really bad game during that streak, cause it will botch your Legend Card attempt since the game calculates your overall rating with only the last few (10-20) played games, acting like a buffer.
