CLCS game 1

Jeremy Aitken pitches for Tokyo vs Oliver Hernandez

Curt Murphy with a sacrifice fly in the 6th and Daniel McPhillip scores on a double play ball in the 7th for Baltimore for a 2-0 lead.

That is all that they will need as Oliver Hernandez pitches a complete game 5-hit shutout to win game 1 for Baltimore.

Tokyo hitters squander an excellent apperance from Aitken as he went 8 innings himself, striking out 10 and giving up just 1 earned run on 6 hits.

Baltimore 2, Tokyo 0

RLCS game 1:

Tim Harden pitches for Colorado vs Jason Holmes for Hammersmith

Hammersmith scores 3 in the bottom of the 5th for a 3-0 lead, but Colorado ties it up the next inning with 3 runs of their own. Hammersmith once again returns the favor with another 3-spot in the bottom of the 6th to retake the lead 6-3.

Hammersmith adds another insurance run in the 8th which is enough to hold off a mini-Ranchero-rally in the 9th for the win.

Colorado Right Fielder Mike Keith is the player of the game going 3 for 5 with 2 RBI despite the loss.

Hammersmith 7, Colorado 5

Almost forgot the news article!

Thursday, October 15th, 2043: Hernández Stops Tokyo
In an excellent mound performance, Oliver Hernández of the Baltimore Charm whitewashed the Tokyo Cyclones 2-0 on a 5-hitter.

He said after the game, "I had my best stuff and did a good job of mixing up my pitches."

The Tokyo manager said, "We just didn't swing the bats well today. Hernández did a good job keeping us guessing."

In all, the Baltimore hurler rang up 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in the shutout win.

So far this year Hernández has 16 wins and 15 losses and a 4.76 ERA.

The rooks did okay. Holmes started his first ever game in Game 1. Brown got his first major league hit from the #5 hole (wish I had noticed the AI placed him there, he's not a power hitter).

CLCS game 2:

Bob Keir pitches for Tokyo vs Kent Davies for Baltimore

back to back Baltimore Charm errors in the top of the first gives Tokyo an early 2-0 lead. The Cyclones add 2 more in the 4th and another in the 5th to extend their advantage.

Keir pitches well and that is all of the lead he needs as he pitches a complete game 7 hit performance where he strikes out 7 and gives up just 1 run.

Tex Jones contributes the game's only home run, a solo shot in the 4th inning.

Tokyo 6, Baltimore 1

Spoiler

The CLCS is tied up 1 each!

RLCS game 2:

Justin Gilbert pitches for Colorado vs Tokuhei Mizutani for Hammersmith

Hammersmith jumps off to the early lead with 3 runs in the 1st, and another run in each of the 2nd and 3rd innings for a 5-0 lead!

Colorado gets a run back in the fourth and 2 more in the 5th to close the gap to just 2!

Both teams get a run in the 8th to give us a 6-4 Hammersmith lead entering the 9th inning...

Alberto Lopez comes in to try to save the game for Hammersmith in the 9th. He gets the pinch hitter Jesus mora to line out to short for the first out of the inning.

Lopez then gives up a single to Sanchez but forces Sanu into a ground out for the second out of the inning with Sanchez advancing to second base.

The tying run up to bat in the form of Tim Carney He lines a ball to right field that falls in for a double. Sanchez scores and Carney is into second base with a stand up double!

Colorado now trails 6-5 with the tying run at second base and two outs.

Ken Gallagher steps up to bat, but the first pitch is waaaay outside and the catcher has no hope to catch it! Carney advances to third on the wild pitch and Colorado has a runner just 90 feet away from tying the game.

Gallagher is unable to get it done however as he is unable to even make contact to the pitches from lopez. He swings and misses for strike three to end the game with a Hooligan win.

Hammersmith 6, Colorado 5

Hammersmith leads the series 2 games to 0

Joe Jacobs of Colorado hits the game's only Home run, a solo shot in the 2nd inning to give the Rancheros an early 1-0 lead. Hammersmith puts up a 5-spot in the 6th inning and then 2 more in the 7th which is more than enough to take this one however.

CLCS game 4:

Colin Bice pitches for Baltimore
vs
Aitken for Tokyo (0-1 1.13 ERA this postseason)

Baltimore gets single runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th inning while Tokyo gets 2 in the 4th and a run in the 7th to tie it up 3-3.

Neither team can break the tie through 9 innings and we head into extra innings!

In the top of the 10th, Ed Hunter stays in the game for Tokyo and strikes out Garcia to lead off the 10th. He makes a mistake however to Murphy as he gives up an infield hit. He then makes a bigger mistake as he gives up a gopher ball to Carrasco, a 2-run Home Run!

Tokyo goes to the bullpen and brings in Kevin Baty, but he fares no better, giving up a Back to back Solo shot to Quincy Strode.

Baltimore takes the 3 runs in the top of the 10th and get Tokyo in three hitters in the bottom of the inning thanks to a timely double-play to win the game and tie up the series.

Baltimore 6, Tokyo 3 (10 innings)

Spoiler

The CLCS is tied 2 games a piece.

Colorado 6, Hammersmith 3

Hernandez pitches for Baltimore (1-0 0.00 ERA)
vs
Keir for Tokyo (1-0 1.00 ERA)

Hernandez completely shut down Tokyo the first time they faced this series. He doesn't even come close this time however as Tokyo gets 4 runs in the 1st, 4 more in the 2nd and 6 runs in the 6th to pretty much throw dirt on Baltimore's grave. Tokyo scores 15 runs on only 12 hits in this one.

Centerfielder Richie 'The Professor' Hankins is the star of the game as he goes 3 for 4 with 4 RBI and 3 Runs scored in the win.

Tokyo 15, Baltimore 3

RLCS game 5:

Holmes pitches for Hammersmith (1-0 3.86 ERA)
vs
Harden for Colorado (0-1 9.00 ERA)

Hammersmith gets 2 in the third, 1 in the 5th and 2 more in the 6th and 7th innings to take a 7-0 lead. Colorado has a late game offensive surge, scoring 2 runs in the 8th and 4 more in the 9th but it is not enough to come from behind and save themselves for a second straight game.

Hammersmith catcher Jeffery Williams is a perfect 5 for 5 while Watanabe goes 3 for 6 with a HR and 4 RBI in the win.

Hammersmith 10, Colorado 6

Thanks for the series, Tasan. Your team had a terrific season. I guess it's just my turn this year (in the RL, that is).

Tuesday, October 20th, 2043: Big Day with Bat: Williams 5-5
5 times is a charm -- at least in the world of baseball. When a player gets 5 or more hits in a game, he is honored in the record book and the latest honoree is Jeffery Williams of the Hammersmith Hooligans. He tore up the Colorado Rancheros to the tune of 5 hits in 5 at-bats in the Hammersmith 10-6 win today at Ballpark of Hammersmith.

"Williams was a tough out today," the Colorado manager said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure."

J. Williams singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and walked in the 9th.

This year Williams has hit at a .268 clip with 97 RBIs, 10 home runs and 89 runs scored.

Ron O'Hagerty evidently is unhappy about being on the Tokyo trade block prior to a huge series vs Baltimore but that does not keep him from trying to do everything to help the Cyclones win as he hits a 2-run home run in the top of the 1st to put Tokyo up 2-0 early.

Baltimore's season is on the line however as a loss here means the end of the road for them. They respond accordingly with 2 runs in the 3rd to tie it up and then another run in each of the 4th and 5th innings to take a 4-2 lead.

Davies strikes out an amazing 11 hitters in only 6.1 innings, giving up only the 2-runs on the O'Hagerty homer and Baltimore stays alive to force a final game 7!

Baltimore 4, Tokyo 2

Spoiler

The CLCS is tied 3-3

Strangely enough, I have been toying with making Betancourt available. But I'll probably talk myself out of it.

I was thinking Colorado has one of the better rotations in the league.

I like Tasan's rotation, but I know what he means. He has a lot of #2s and #3s, but no real #1. And the #1's can really get you the rings in this league.

According to the internet, "Fres (Φρές) is a village and municipality in Chania Prefecture on the island of Crete, Greece"

CLCS game 7:

Aitken pitches for Tokyo (0-1 2.40 ERA)
vs
Bradford for Baltimore (0-1 4.50 ERA)

Felix Garcia and Murphy hit back to back home runs in the bottom of the 4th , a 2 run shot for Garcia to give the Charm a 3-0 lead. That is all Bradford will need as he somehow scatters 5 hits and 6 walks over 7 innings but does not give up a single run.

Baltimore gets an additional insurance run in the 8th on a Gavin Taylor solo home run to clinch the series.

Baltimore 4, Tokyo 0

Spoiler

The Baltimore Charm are the 2043 Continental League Champions!

I know he didn't pitch terrible, but we didn't win one of the three games he started.

Well at least I dodge Bradford at the start. Not that there's an easy starter to go against in muns' rotation (as usual).

Good luck, muns!

Tight series, there, Kevin. You almost had him.
