Is Madden Worth 60 Bucks?

I am more of a 2k football guy and was hoping for a deal when it came to getting a used copy of madden to see for myself how good it is.

Well unfortunately now any used game now costs $49.99 which amounts to 56 dollars just a $10 difference from full price.

Has it gotten this far that a used game is now just 10 off the price. This is rediculous.

Well anyway before I unleash the plastic on the new copy I purchased is Madden really worth 60 bucks?

Yes and no. Its a step in the right direction. As with any game their are some flaws but if you are playing friends, i would say its worth it. There is a slight learning curve for the game as they did improve some aspects greatly.

I like the game. Online franchise rocks. Pro-tak rocks. It doesn't feel as authentic overall as APF, and I personally love abilities and team building. For pure football - it plays a pretty good game.

Re: Is Madden Worth 60 Bucks?

You might want to rent it or look on Craigslist if you think you may need that money for something else.

I loved 2k8....Madden just has sooo many stupid problems.

Was watching ESPN First Take today. They had Ocho Cinco on. Showing Madden footage of him for some reason. First curl route they show? Interception. And no matter who tries to defend it, the curl route is broken! Along with a million other things man.

Basically if that money is a lot to you, I would be very hesitant. Especially since you've held off for this long

Yeah,I think it is because if you divide the hours of entertainment by the cost of the game you come out way ahead. Plus you could have a little tourney(Madden Party) at your house and recoup your money with a door fee(trust me people would show up)...If you wanted to.Not to mention there are several posted gamertags that will give good games here.

Re: Is Madden Worth 60 Bucks?

I think it is. It's a big step above Madden 09, and while there are problems the first patch helped and the second patche (due out mid- to late-November) should fix even more of the problems.

Some elements of gameplay (read: blocking) are better in APF, but there are areas in which Madden is better than APF (AI pass coverage). The offseason stuff is also a lot of fun in Franchise Mode. I only play Offline Franchise, but scouting the incoming draft class, having to decide whether to resign one elite player or several good players, assembling a good coaching staff (not as good as it could be, basically just hire the guys with the best player bonuses) are all great. The draft is my favorite part of the offseason, hoping that a player you want will fall those last couple spots until you can take him, cursing when he gets taken with the pick right before yours, scrambling to find someone else to draft.

In terms of actual gameplay, it's pretty much a toss-up, APF wins in some areas, but Madden in others. Madden wins out overall because of two things: 1. Franchise Mode, and 2. the NFL license. I had some fun games in APF, but it's just another level of fun to be able to play with an entire NFL team with the correct names (for both players and teams) and uniforms rather than a close approximation (11 guys, a close uniform, and a similar name).

Re: Is Madden Worth 60 Bucks?

I only paid a little over $40 for mine with S&H off of eBay and that was two weeks ago. Be patient and you'll find one for a good price if you want to buy it used.

This years version of Madden is playable, but you can't use real football knowledge consistently in it, and if your a X's and O's type of guy, that will probably drive you crazy after awhile.

Madden in a step in the right direction, but they haven't caught up to where they should be if they had been working on building a better game. They added a lot of stuff this year presentation wise, but it's still not caught up with 2K5, and it's definitely not next gen yet.

IMHO you don't pay for it until it's caught up.

AI pass coverage is nigh broken in Madden from a realism and X's and O's standpoint. Coverage defies all laws of physics, momentum, no footwork, still warp to the ball on higher difficulties. It's harder, but not realistic, and definitely not better in any real sense of the word. On lower difficulties, it's not even fun/challenging and is far easier than even APF2K8.

The one area that Madden does well is finishing off a run. ProTak is a nice edition, and while not perfect, seems to work fairly well from a visual perspective (looks nice).

Movement: APF2K8
Passing: APF2K8
Animations: APF2K8
Graphics / Pixel Quality: Madden 10
Stadiums: Madden 10
Commentary: APF2K8
Football Strategy: APF2K8
Finishing Runs: Madden 10
Pass Coverage: Even (as in both have problems heh)
Run Coverage: APF2K8
Zone Coverage: APF2K8 (huge gap here still)
Pathing For Tackles: APF2K8 (Madden seems lost at times)
Man Coverage: Even
Blocking: APF2K8 (could be even with Madden 10 patch)
Line Play: APF2K8 (huge gap still here)
Refs: APF2K8 (Madden is really close though now)
Kicking Game: APF2K8 (by a long shot)
Running: APF2K8
NFL: Madden
Controls: APF2K8 (personal choice, I like shells and hot route/man/blitz mechanism)
Offline Franchise: Madden 10 (by a long shot)
Online Franchise: (can't say, haven't played Madden 10 yet)
Online Play: (can't say, haven't played online yet)
Create a Team: APF2K8 (only gets a slight nod because of the strategy element, which may be a personal choice)

Re: Is Madden Worth 60 Bucks?

I like the game, but no way is it worth full price.

This is more of a $30-$40 game, IMO. I got mine for free, and that's how much I'd pay for it.

I have no regrets about dropping full price for this game. Online Franchise is amazing and makes the game a non-stop play for me.

Re: Is Madden Worth 60 Bucks?

I'm caught in the middle with my thoughts. While I did feel this year's Madden was much better than any other's I've played in the past, I did grow tired of it as of a week or so ago after buying it since launch.

I asked myself what it was about this game that was fun and why I stepped away from it and the answer simply was gameplay. For what it's worth, M10 has a lot of nice things going for it: new presentations, NFL teams, deep & flexible franchise mode (offline), online franchise, etc but in the end, the gameplay still feels off. As Valdarez stated above, if you're an X's & O's kind of guy or like running a real football gameplan, M10 can be enfuriating at times. Also, there are still quirks about the game that just don't make sense: warping secondary AI, LB & DL jumping 10 feet in the air for INTs, lack of passing mechanics consistancy, etc.

What I found was that I simply wasn't having much fun with the online aspect of the game. For whatever reason, User vs User (XBL) games just aren't as fun to me and that I can honestly admit is my problem. I simply just don't have enough patience with this game to go in and practice, play 100's of games, etc in order to want to get better against opponents because the gameplay just isn't enticing enough to get me to spend hours with it. Wins seemed like I earned them over b.s. and losses seemed like I earned them with b.s.; a game never felt as if one person won due to proper gameplanning, playcalilng, etc.

Offline, has been a lot of fun for me. I feel the game does do a good job of replicating real NFL play versus the CPU, espeically with proper slider settings. Teams play to their strengths & tendencies, in offline Franchise teams will make characteristic movements as they should, and the gameplay seems to be the right amount of challenge where every game is close.

So in the end, I'm playing both. APF still serves as my football gameplay fix and gives me the challenge of playing strategic football, M10 serves as my NFL & roster management fix while playing a more "arcade" like football game. Each game has their pluses and minuses but combined they help fullfill a full football experience. I'm sure I'll give M10 Online another shot as the season goes on.
