Gators' Spikes in apparent dirty play vs. Dawgs

Brandon Spikes' fourth-quarter interception for a touchdown Saturday punctuated top-ranked Florida's 41-17 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs.

With the Gators atop the BCS standings for a third straight week, though, it's another Spikes play that has resonated -- for all the wrong reasons.

A video from Saturday's broadcast shows the senior, All-America linebacker shoving his hand into the top of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey's facemask at some point during the game.

It appears to be an attempt to gouge Ealey's eyes as the Georgia player lie at the bottom of a pile-up after a play. A flag wasn't thrown on the play, which was captured clearly on CBS' national broadcast of the game.

The incident was news to coach Urban Meyer on Sunday during a conference call with reporters.

"If that's the case, I'll have a very serious talk with him," Meyer said.

The SEC was to review the play Monday, spokesman Charles Bloom told ESPN.com's Pat Forde.

Spikes led Florida with a game-high 10 tackles as the Gators held the Bulldogs scoreless in the first and fourth quarters, bookends to a futile effort by quarterback Joe Cox, who finished with 165 yards passing, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

That performance included Georgia's team-wide celebration following Cox's 26-yard TD pass to Aron White that cut Florida's lead to 14-10 in the second quarter.

In 2007, the Bulldogs used a similar celebration -- an end-zone stomp that drew flags and Florida's ire -- to propel them to a rare victory in the series.

On Saturday, Florida responded by taking a 24-10 into halftime and essentially putting the game out of reach by the second possession of the second half.

First of all, I'm not saying what he did was right and you're entitled to your own opinion, but still... what the hell ?

This sort of thing does happen more often then what you think, I'm sure anyone who has played organized football at some point in time would agree. I know being caught on camera doesn't exactly help the situation ,but I don't see the point in throwing Spikes under the train though.

Lol, good to hear. You had me wondering. I didn't want to be rude, but I couldn't help but think to myself.."What kind of statement is that?"

I'm sure there's a lot more going on in those piles than eye gouging...if you know what I mean.
