Re: Tom Cable = Wifebeater

If a player came into the league and Goodell found out that he hit two girls his sophmore year in college and another in high school, he'd have no power to punish them. The only thing this information can be used for by the NFL is evidence that he's more than capable of hitting his assistant, and proof that it likely did happen. The Raiders, on the other hand, can fire him for whatever reason they want, so it makes sense that they investigate this and make a decision on his future.

Seems to me like ESPN's got something against Tom Cable.

Yes clearly they have something against him. I am sure on the advice of their team of psychics to break a story in 2009 back when these allegations were made it was ESPN who put these women up to saying these things. Is the entire Raider Nation as paranoid as the senile old man running the show?

Lets be honest, a player with that history would have red flags all over his file and would have fallen several rounds and lost millions of dollars, and that is presuming he was an early round talent, if a later round projected pick had that record he wouldn't be drafted. The timing of this is also a big issue, as Cable allegedly committed these acts while an employee of a team in the NFL, meaning Goodell sure as hell as the power to act. He suspended Pac Man Jones for a season with similar evidence and a coach should be held to a higher standard than any player.

You're comparing apples to hamburgers here. But first lets go with your scenarios. If a player did drop a couple of rounds bc of off field issues in college/high school, if they then played a couple of years on the level that their talent projected them they'd get a big contract and be treated like one of the best in the league (Randy Moss among others). If a player isn't drafted they'd still get to come to camp and make a team where their talent would determine their fate.

Now lets look at a better comparison... a player's been in the league for years when it comes out that he did these things in college and/or high school. He's already been drafted and paid. All that would happen is he'd be labeled as a bad guy. That's all that could happen. Jones violated the conduct policy that year... and then again when on probation. It's not the same situation. It's not like Pacman was keeping is nose clean and then some old dirt came out on him and bam, he's suspended.

Gotta admit it was perfect timing reporting this mess though.

Raiders should be demoted to the UFL. Hell, they probably wouldn't do jack **** there either.
